Chandigarh Airport

Last night my in-laws and I went to the Chandigarh Airport to receive my hubby's bhaiya bhabi and their son. It is by far the most small, village like airport I've seen in my life. When we were walking towards the arrival terminal my mom-in-law asked me 'Are we going the right way?'. I said 'Yes mom' and I pointed towards a red painted sign on a wall which said 'Entry Terminal'. I can understand why she felt that way, cause the long walk to the arrival terminal is through a narrow path which is extremely wobbly. Inside there is one tiny conveyor belt for the checked-in luggage. The biggest challenge however is taking a trolley full of luggage to the car park outside. The long narrow path is made of cemented tiles, so your trolley runs in every possible direction it wishes. A little advice to people carrying breakable items,
1) Don't put the breakable item on the trolley
2) Come by train or cab to Chandigarh
On a more positive note, they are renovating the airport so things will hopefully improve. :)

Jacques Clouseau

Last night I was watching the film 'The Pink Panther'. It was quite a laugh riot. I loved Steve Martin's acting. He is awesome!! Specially love this dialogue between him and his assistent Ponton, after they find out about a murder:
Ponton : 'He was shot in the head'
Clouseau : 'Was it fatal?'
Ponton : 'Yes'
Clouseau : 'How fatal?'
Ponton : 'Completely'
Clouseau : 'I want to talk to him'
Ponton : 'But he is dead'
Clouseau : 'Ahhh.. I see'

My First Karva Chauth

When ever I think of Karva Chauth I remember the movie DDLJ. Although this festival has been shown in a number of hindi films I always think of DDLJ cause at one point I was literally in love with Shah Rukh Khan. Still his fan. Anyways I feel Karva Chauth is one of the most romantic festivals. It was on the 7th of October this year. I woke up at 4 am, got ready and had a proper meal at 5 am. Then I went back to sleep. Basically you just dress up like a bride, put mehendi on your hands and dont do any other work all day!! And if you take naps during the day you dont feel that hungry or exhausted. Also if your hubby is on ship he can tell you the exact time of moon rise in your city. My hubby was so worried how I will survive without food for an entire day. Cause usually I am always hungry. So he called a number of times from ship that day, kept asking how I am and he said moon rise should be by 8 pm. He was really accurate. So my mom-in-law and I did the evening pooja and broke our fast at 8 pm. All in all I realised its not that difficult to fast if you eat well in the morning.

Singapura

My hubby and I spent a month in Singapore when his ship reached there for dry dock. We stayed with his brother and sister-in-law. Its a beautiful place. I was quite surprised to learn that after Mandarin and Malay, Tamil is the third language there. We spent a day in Sentosa, an island by itself. Sentosa was good fun. It was raining the day we went there. We walked along various trails, saw Underwater World, Dolphin Lagoon, MerLion, Songs of the Sea, took the Sky ride and checked out lots of other stuff. Then we went for the Night Safari. That was kinda spooky and fun. We saw the Creatures of the night show. Ate and drank at some really good places, one of them was Villa Bali. It has the most amazing snacks and cocktails. And of course I did loads of shopping. All in all had a nice time in Singapore.

Cruising Together

Just remembered the Gwyneth Paltrow song 'Cruising Together'. All those who are not scared of water or don't get sea sick have to go on ship at least once in their life! Its amazing. Before I went on ship a lot of people told me you will get bored, you will feel sea sick etc etc. Well I neither got bored or felt sea sick. View from the bridge (which is the top most point on board) is breathtaking. For the first time in my life I saw sunrises and sunsets without the view being blocked by a building. I saw whales and dolphins too. We had lifeboat drills thrice. It was good fun doing them. I was the only lady on board and treated with utmost respect. The vessel feels like a five star hotel from inside. There is an officer's recreation room where we used to watch movies or just chill out. Our cabin was really comfy and cute. Since my husband is the Chief Officer on board his timings were 4am to 8am and 4pm to 8pm. I've watched so many good movies on board. Met people from different cultures. And had an amazing time. Cant wait to sail again!

Wedding Daze

Every girl dreams of the perfect wedding. I know this sounds like the opening line of an english film. But its true. Well I never really thought about planning my wedding that much. Cause in India usually your parents take all the responsibility. All I had to do was look pretty and happy. Of course there were those senti moments. Like the time my sister looked at me all teary eyed and said 'I am going to miss you a lot'. Before I could react she asked 'Can I get your cupboard?'. My mom heard the conversation and said 'Dont talk like that, I am going to be using her cupboard'. Yup it was a very "senti"mental moment. Then with all the craziness of shopping and meeting people whose names you cannot remember, the wedding day arrived. The ceremony went off pretty nicely. I had butterflies in my tummy the entire time. Then came the photo sessions. I dont remember the last time I smiled non-stop for three to four hours at a stretch. And my hubby and I were literally blind for the next few days because of the non stop flash photography. Now I understand why celebraties get annoyed with paparazzi. Anyways thank goodness I went through that only once. Then married life began.

Finally Created a Blog!!

I've wanted to create a blog since I got married but never got the time. Its been around seven months of married life. Okay five! Cause I am not counting the past two months of separation. Well I had that coming since my hubby is in the Merchant Navy. But its alright since I've been with my in-laws and God bless them for being the most amazing in-laws a girl can ask for. Will be writing soon about the wedding followed by my sailing experience.
